Dr. Sumaiya Kabir

Associate Professor

Dr. Sumaiya Kabir is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET), Bangladesh, and serves as Associate Director at the Institute of Information and Communication Technology. An internationally recognized researcher in micro/nanoelectronics, she earned her PhD from RMIT University, Australia, where her work on phase-change materials and oxide electronics gained global visibility, including journal cover features and media recognition.

Her research spans advanced materials to intelligent systems, bridging micro/nano-fabrication, smart sensors, and AI-driven technologies. She works on microelectronic devices, phase-change materials, and optoelectronic thin films, alongside emerging research in artificial intelligence for healthcare, wearable sensing systems, and biomedical signal analysis. Her recent contributions include AI-based models for stress detection, sleep apnea monitoring, and cardiovascular signal analysis using wearable devices. She has also developed innovative prototypes such as ultra-fast phase-change devices, high-sensitivity photodetectors, and thermochromic smart coatings—advancing sustainable, energy-efficient, and intelligent next-generation electronics.

Dr. Sumaiya has an outstanding publication record in top-tier journals including Advanced Electronic Materials, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, and leading IEEE venues, alongside impactful interdisciplinary research. Her excellence has been recognized through prestigious awards such as the RMIT Research Excellence Award, FMM Prize, and the Young Scientist Research Prize from the Royal Society of Victoria.

A Senior Member of IEEE and Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Bangladesh Section, Dr. Sumaiya is a passionate advocate for diversity, leadership, and capacity building in STEM. Through her global collaborations and professional service, she continues to drive impactful research, mentor future engineers, and shape the future of inclusive technological innovation.
